A Nice Bottle of Scotch: $65.00

AiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70

If we are one thing, we are gentlemen. And while I do spend the majority of my year partaking in a fine selection of microbrews and financially affordable liquors I feel that the holidays are a special time in need of a special beverage.

For me that beverage is a fine Scotch Whiskey.

I make no claim to be a Scotch snob but I do know what I like. My person preference is the Caol Ila 12 single malt Scotch Whiskey, namely because it’s one of the only ones I’ve ever tried.

The best part about buying your friend a classy bottle of Scotch is that—with the proper persuasion—you can most likely get them to share a toast with you on the spot, thus attaining yourself a sample of the tasty beverage you just gave away. Nothing says value like imbibing part of your own gift.

You may have to venture outside to obtain this prize, but I feel it will be worth it. Most of the package stores in my area have a nice selection of scotches in the $50-$65 price range.

The Jedi Path: A Manual For Students of the Force – Vault Edition: $61.95

AiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70

This book is the real deal. From the description on Amazon:

With the push of a button, the doors of the vault open in a wash of light and Star Wars sound effects. The inner platform rises, revealing this exclusive edition of The Jedi Path.

I’m listening.

This ancient training manual, crafted by early Jedi Masters, has educated and enlightened generations of Jedi. It explains the history and hierarchy of the Jedi Order, and what Jedi must know to take their place as defenders of the peace in the galaxy–from mastery of the Force to the nuances of lightsaber combat.

Awesome. Simply awesome. This book is encased in metal, details the history and future of the Jedi Council, and features “personal commentary” from Yoda, Thame Cerulian, Count Dooku, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Darth Sidious, and Luke Skywalker.

WWE ’12: $55.96

AiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70

It’s being called one of the best wrestling video games of all time, and while I’m not one to subscribe to such hyperbole when we still live in a world alongside the perfection that is WWF No Mercy for the Nintendo 64, WWE ’12 is definitely a contender. Dropping the “SmackDown!” name they have employed for the past twelve or so years, WWE ’12 marks a fresh start in the series, and it shows with an all new control scheme, better physics and collision detection with weaponry, and way more in depth options for character creation and finishing move creation. Oh yeah, you can make your own arenas, too. Wanna recreate WCW Souled Out so that its vaunted legacy lives on? Go for it.

WWE ’12 also features an absolutely huge roster of wrestlers (over 60 at launch if you include the first DLC pack), from present-day stars like The Miz and Dolph Ziggler to old school legends like the Road Warriors, Mick Foley and Shawn Michaels (are Mick Foley and Shawn Michaels really considered old school legends now? God, I’m old). Everyone who is a fan of both pro wrestling and video games should unquestionably have this in their collection. $55.96 for the Xbox 360AiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70 or PS3 versionsAiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70, $49.96 for WiiAiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70.

Kymera Magic Wand Remote Control: $65.92

AiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70

Want to assure you’ll get laid during dinner and a movie night but ran out of date rape pills? Then look no further than this “enchanting” magic wand television remote, which will tacitly tell your hired escort, “Hey, want to see why they call me the #1 Harry Potter fan fiction writer east of the Mississippi?” ($65.92 from AmazonAiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70)

Tales from the Darkside: The Complete Series: $65.00

AiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70

Produced by George Romero in the late 80s, Tales from the Darkside can be thought of as “Creepshow: The Series”; what with being an anthology horror series that Romero was inspired to produce after his work on “Creepshow”. Likewise, it features contributions from the other masterminds behind that greatest of anthology horror films, with episodes written by Stephen King and directed by Tom Savini.

Tales from the Darkside wasn’t as streamlined or overly produced as the more well-known Tales from the Crypt (which came later), but the gritty and low budget quality of the series is one of its strongest elements. The less glossy, less “Hollywood” atmosphere lends it a more frightening and unsettling tone, particularly when the show gets downright bizarre.

Despite having a number of rather annoying comedy relief episodes (including one where Kareem Abbdul-Jabar plays a genie), when this show was on it was ON. There are too many stand-out episodes to list, but the likes of “Halloween Candy”, “Inside the Closet”, “Answer Me”, “Ursa Minor”, “Seasons of Belief” and “The Cutty Black Sow” are some of the best installments in anthology horror television history.

You can get all 70 episodes, plus lots of bonus features including episodes of other anthology horror programs from the same creators, interviews and commentary tracks, for a mere $65. The creepy, nightmarish opening narration is worth the pricetag alone.

The Walking Dead Omnibus Volume 3: $63.00

AiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70

For those of you who have watched the phenomenal A&E adaptation of the Image Comic of the same title, you know how awesome a gift this is. Lauded for its character development and exploration of a post-apocalyptic zombie affected world, TWD has a cult following, and for good reason. Engaging, interesting, and for my fellow survivalists, informative, this series takes the zombiepocalyse to new levels. Plus, if the giftee is truly deserving of such a lavish gift, they’ll be more than happy to share custody with you. Right? We all win.

At least until the shit finally does hit the fan, and we’re all walker bait anyway. ($63.00 on Amazon)

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword: $52.99

AiPT Holiday Shopping Guide - Money-to-Blow Edition: Under $70

As a gamer, I’m embarrassed to admit that I don’t yet have a Wii. Its high on my list of things to purchase, but being an adult is tough, man. And right now, a Kuerig is outweighing a new gaming system, in my book. (I have Skyrim on the horizon and probably won’t surface until spring, at least)

BUT.

If I did have a Wii, I would play the shit out of this game.

And now this new installment is being hailed as a rival to the N64 classic, Ocarina of Time.

Fuck me running, I want this game. I want to spend countless hours in Hyrule, I want to run amok in the forest, looking for rupees and fairies and…

Oh wait, this is a gift giving guide. Crap.

Well, for the love of all that is holy, someone buy SOMEBODY this! ($52.99 on Amazon)
