Dark Phoenix will be the last X-Men movie released not under Marvel’s official banner with Kevin Feige at the helm. That makes the film rather suspect when it comes to future films so it might not matter much what happens in the film. That said, it’s the fourth film in a franchise (the fifth if you count Deadpool 2) that features all-star actors like James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. These two characters had a bit of a love affair going, which makes the latest news all the more tragic.
Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg has revealed Lawrence’s Mystique is in fact killed and she dies possibly very soon after the film starts. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Kinberg revealed, “Her death impacts literally everybody.” Kinberg explained why this death was important when he said, “it was to show that Jean/Dark Phoenix is genuinely a threat to everyone, including the X-Men.”
It appears this and the Dark Pheonix are driving forces for the main plot of the movie splintering the X-Men and Magneto into two groups. A group lead by Magneto who want to kill Jean Grey and those who want to save Jean from herself, lead by Xavier.
Dark Phoenix is a film most of us should have already seen. The film was originally set for release November 2, 2018, then pushed to February 14, 2019, and finally finding a release date on June 7, 2019.
