ComiXology revamps reading experience and moving to Amazon is closing up shop and moving to Amazon.

Earlier this week, co-founder and CEO of ComiXology David Steinberger revealed new plans and upgrades will be underway for the comics reading app this fall. In an open letter to ComiXology users, Steinberger outlined recent wins for the company like ComiXology Originals and their collaboration with Amazon back in 2014.

The upcoming changes include an upgrade to the reading experience which will feature better filtering and sorting along with “fun” book navigation features and faster download speeds. This news comes just days before Substack revealed they’ll be offering app integration for their comics readers.

The biggest change comes with Amazon integration, which means the current ComiXology website experience will change. The digital comics shopping experience is moving to Amazon proper and you can peruse that website layout today. Those who use the Amazon Prime video streaming app will notice similarities in layout design. As of today, it appears the ComiXology branding is going away and for traditionalists, that’s a bit sad since it appears Amazon branding will take over for the most part.

This integration extends to Kindle, which will allow Kindle Unlimited and Prime members the ability to borrow graphic novels and manga and ComiXology purchases will now be readable on Kindle apps and devices. It’s unclear if the Kindle Paperwhite will allow for comic reading, although since that reader is in only black and white one might assume it’s not a great choice.
