‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ #107 review

Simple summer fun.

I can’t help but be happy with this incarnation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with a new team paving the way for this new arc. It is a fun book to have the opportunity to read, with the return of a classic villain along with some great new additions.

Truly, a great addition to the series has been how Mutanttown molded the familiarity of New York City, with the absurdity that is the premise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. As the plot thickens, we manage to witness how the team of Turtles adapt to their new world. It’s a perfect marriage of plot and character that brings a synchronous joy with how readers experience this visual treat.

The plot by Sophie Campbell and script by Ronda Pattinson deliver an exceptional execution of this narrative. It has a wonderful depth that really goes into further exploration of the aftershock that people in Mutanttown have been dealing with following their mutations.

In unique fashion, the artwork by Nelson Daniel wonderfully complements this series. The cartoon style blended with the classical TMNT artwork allows for the lighter moments of this series to land, while still giving way to darker moments. In earnest, the art gives way to some truly intimate human moments despite being about anthropomorphized animals.

Adding further flavor to this series is the addition of Ronda Pattison, whose color scheme gives some cool themes to every page. It’s quite fun, and allows for the inclusion of an array of simple coloring that really lends itself to be a fun read and refuses to compromise the reading experience. Moreover, letterer Shawn Lee has done a great job of giving each panel their own unique flow and rhythm through his unique word balloons.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #107 is simple summer fun. It’s a fun ride, and really just a nice reprieve for what’s occurring in the real world.

Cool story and script
Fun artwork, colors, and letters
Feels like it's still building up to something, so it's not a standout but more of setup.
