Laura Belmont stars in the thrilling film The Changeling. Directed by Faye Jackson, The Changeling is a horrific tale that examines the nature of motherhood and the maternal bond. Jackson is not shy about showing the hideous and the grotesque side of humanity. The Changeling is a short film, but it will leave audiences thinking about it for some time after viewing it.
Belmont’s acting is phenomenal. Belmont hardly speaks and is doing most of the work with expressions that deliver a range of emotions. From confusion to terror, Belmont’s soundless performance speaks volumes about insecurities and trepidation of motherhood.
While the film carries the audience to a couple of settings the focus is always on Laura and her baby. There are some gruesome scenes involving diapers and the contents therein that are pretty gross but a lot of fun to watch.
Jackson’s film will probably dissuade from changing diapers for a while, but the story will haunt you. The Changeling is presented as part of the Small Gauge Trauma showcase at this year’s Fantasia Film Festival.
