Gerald Brisco released from WWE

After 36 years with the company, one half of The Stooges says goodbye to McMahon Land.

WWE Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco took to Twitter this morning to announce that he had been released from WWE after 36 years with the company. Brisco debuted in the company in 1984 as an in-ring performer with brother Jack Brisco, but after both men retired in 1985, Gerald moved into a backstage position, where he remained for the next three and a half decades.

To modern fans, Brisco is best known for his work in the late 1990s and early 2000s as one of Vince McMahon’s on-air “stooges” with Pat Patterson. Brisco’s on-air run is memorable for moments such as pinning a sleeping Crash Holly to win the WWF Hardcore Championship as well as battling Pat Patterson in a Hardcore Evening Gown match at King of the Ring 2000.

Behind the scenes, Brisco worked as a road agent for decades, transitioning into a talent scout and recruiter role in the 2010s after suffering health scares that kept him off the road. As a star high school and collegiate wrestler himself, he was most notable for bringing in wrestlers with a similar background, such as Dolph Ziggler.

Brisco’s last on-screen appearance came in July 2019 when Brisco won the WWE 24/7 Championship on Monday Night Raw, losing the belt shortly after the first female 24/7 Champion, Kelly Kelly.

The release of Gerald Brisco comes days after the news of the Authors of Pain being let go from WWE and mere hours before news of more incoming releases began to spread. We will keep you updated here at AIPT as more information comes out.
