Hal Jordan’s adventures will be expanding now that Razer is here. In this newest issue, we will see some groundwork showing that the universe is under attack and that Jordan needs to return to the stars. Jeremy Adams has been grounding Jordan as both a pilot and a Green Lantern in this series, but we know that Jordan’s will and tenacity won’t let that stop him. Guest artist Amancay Nahuelpan joins colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr. to light up the adventure as the blue light of Hope seems to fade.

What a welcome sight Razer is to the comic book adventures of Green Lantern. His appearance in the current comic series could bring some very positive attention to the Green Lantern: The Animated Series that ran for one season. Razer also brings in more of the Emotional Spectrum as a member of the Blue Lanterns, but sadly, we see the Central Power Battery for the Blue Lanterns destroyed (again?). This situation opens things up for a deeper dive into what has been happening with the Emotional Spectrum.

One of the best moments in this issue was with Carol Ferris. There has been a lot of play in Carol and Hal’s relationship. Jeremy Adams has proven he can handle character relationships by giving them an incredible jumpstart; look to Wally and Linda West when Adams wrote Flash. I am very excited to see how Adams will use Carol Ferris in this series because he has built her company up and might be able to tie her in with the Emotional Spectrum as she was a Star Sapphire, which puts Carol in a challenging situation on what path to choose. It is never easy for Hal and Carol, and I love that Adams continues to play that trope but finds ways to make it richer in these situations.

The backup story will take you on a nostalgia trip as Ron Marz and Dale Eaglesham bring us an adventure with Kyle Rayner. Marz utilizes a framing sequence that takes us to Kyle’s early days, bringing us to the present, in which Kyle is talking with a ring construct of Alex DeWitt. It is very interesting to see Marz pen an issue with a GL talking to a former love generated via a power ring. If we’re worrying about GLs, go back to the front cover and check the time on that clock; it looks like it is approaching Zero Hour.
This issue seems to be a breather between story arcs, but Jeremy Adams doesn’t let Hal Jordan stay idle as he throws some curve balls that will be a strong setup for later. Things are bad for Odym. Carol has to make some decisions and potential answers about the ring from magic and what it is connected to, plus the United Planets are on the hunt. It is an exhilarating time for Green Lantern fans as some signs point toward big things within the Emotional Spectrum! Also, the 30th anniversary of Kyle Rayner brings back Ron Marz, but what other hints could that present?
