With the DC Comics line-wide crossover event Absolute Power in full swing, Jeremy Adams continues with Hal Jordan in lockup by Amanda Waller and her team. Yet Hal is not alone in this issue, as we get part of the story exploring Carol Ferris, Alan Scott, and the JSA dealing with Waller. So, get ready for entertainment on all fronts. Adams teams with artist Fernando Pasarin to bring the adventures to life in this new issue.
If you want to enhance your experience for issue 14, then I recommend picking up Absolute Power: Task Force VII #3, also by Jeremy Adams. That comic explores what happened with Alan, Carol, and the JSA between Green Lantern issues #13 and #14. Adams and Fernando Pasarin did a fantastic job of giving us a Hal Jordan who has to rely on his wits and strange gadgets to survive at the prison on Gamorra Island. The art and text play off each other nicely, and we peek into Hal’s thoughts. He is now using weapons that once were used on him for his survival. There are great callbacks to prior villains and plenty of moments to make you laugh out loud.

Adams and Pasarin have found great chemistry as they keep the pace lively in the issue, which bounces around to show some exciting moments. One that popped out was Alan Scott saying “checkmate”; the moment plays out naturally as the characters are playing chess, but could this be a sign of more to come? Carol Ferris’ moments were fun as she is a fish out of water while on the run with the JSA. Her scenes are played out perfectly in Pasarin’s art as he captures Carol’s facial expressions.

As we approach the end of the issue, things will pick up the pace as we get a quick glimpse of the United Planets and how Hal’s plan of shooting from the hip plays out. This tie-in issue has my attention and hype for Absolute Power #3 and Carol’s adventure, as a new ring wielder will be looking for her. I’m glad Carol is growing as a character and might even be developing her own rogues gallery. The backup story gives readers some insights into how the United Planets administration has affected the picking of Lantern officers; it will be quite the rebuild for the GLC if they regain control.
This creative team is playing nicely with the rest of the DCU as they take their cast and put them in danger with Waller’s Absolute Power. It is a fun adventure that will showcase the people behind the powers and remind us why we like them, which will also give Absolute Power one of its biggest moments.
