Issue #1 was solid, does #2 continue the trend? Is this AssCreed good?

RED VS BLUE – ASSASSIN EDITION
I am 100% digging this plot. Picking up exactly where we left off, our hero, Charlotte, is currently inside the Animus inhabiting the body of her ancestor: incredibly badass and mutton-chopped Tom Stoddard, a Master Assassin.
If the above line made sense to you, this book will work for you. If not, the sheer quantity of backstory that’s associated with the Assassin’s Creed games is probably a bit too daunting.
Still, I appreciate that they’re not really holding the reader’s hand throughout this series. I’m assuming they figure the people most interested are the gamers out there (hi fellow nerds!), so they’re playing to the audience.
Now, as a Massachusetts resident, the Salem Witch Trials as a setting is delicious. Our ancestor figure Tom is a puritan badass, and the creepy overarching threat of this time in our country’s history works extremely well in setting a tone that a conspiracy could live in.
What did yah say abaht Tom Brady yah gahdamn bastahd?
The only plot point that sticks out as WAY too overdone? Charlotte’s comments from the future.
Look, I get that they don’t want us to forget that there’s a modern day woman watching her puritan great great great grand-something kicking ass, but color commentary is not needed. For example:
“Like, your chops are totally grody, and it smells so bad in the past and junk!”
This breakage of the narrative and action is forced and unnecessary. We know she’s there. It’s why we’re seeing all this, and you certainly don’t see the people in the games pulling a John Madden on the action at hand.
Madden: “See, what…what…ya gotta…what ya gotta do here is, you gotta ask her where she’s getting threads like that in 1690s Massachusetts.”
Artwork wise, this issue is actually an improvement on the last. Good pacing, well planned out set pieces, and as seen above, the kill scenes with amazing sound effects are ongoing.
Is It Good?
Yes. I’m going with a 9.5 on this, because I’m honestly excited to see where everything is going. Tom is a stone cold killer, the actual quest they’re on is compelling, the artwork is adding to the quality, and I’m having a blast. Bring on issue 3!
