Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden are teaming up with artist Alex Nieto to continue the story of Hellboy’s unlikely romance with archeologist Anastasia Bransfield this summer in Hellboy in Love: The Art of Fire, and AIPT’s got an exclusive look at the project.
Below are early designs for Hellboy and Anastasia, along with commentary!
“Being able to draw these characters is a dream come true for me,” Nieto said. “Thanks, Mike, for that. I’ve always had it as a goal, but I didn’t think it would happen so quickly; I haven’t been drawing comics for long.”
“For the first issue, I had to familiarize myself with the characters and tweak my version of Hellboy a bit to make him more like Matt Smith’s. I took some time with Anastasia to get comfortable drawing her. The villains were especially fun to draw (as always).”
