The Eisner Award–winning team behind Descender, Ascender, and Little Monsters is back with their most ambitious collaboration yet. At New York Comic Con, Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen revealed Crowbound, a sprawling dark fantasy revenge epic launching from Image Comics in March 2026.
The series begins when every child at age thirteen is forced into life inside The Factory—a massive, mysterious superstructure where they labor endlessly without understanding why. But when young Ava is torn away from her mother Rose by the Factory Men for a more sinister purpose, Rose makes a desperate pact with the eerie Scarecrow Queen and sets out on a nightmare-fueled quest across a haunted, post-apocalyptic landscape to bring her daughter home.
“Crowbound has been a project Dustin and I have been developing for several years, and we are incredibly excited to finally unleash it,” Lemire said. “If Descender was a sprawling space opera, then Crowbound is a sprawling dark fantasy revenge saga filled with heart, emotion, and rage, all rendered in the way only Dustin Nguyen can.”
Nguyen added: “Not only am I excited to explore this entirely new world with Jeff, but also excited to discover entirely new ways to tell stories and an exciting new direction for my art on this next book as well—this happens every time I collaborate with Jeff.”
Both Lemire and Nguyen will appear on this afternoon’s Image Comics Presents: The Future of Comics panel from 2 – 2:45 PM at North-Room 408 to share more details.
Packed with Southern Gothic dread, Neo-Western grit, and surreal horror, Crowbound promises a blood-soaked fairytale about fury, grief, and love’s endurance against impossible odds.
