Marvel Comics has announced a new ongoing Avengers series launching this November from the acclaimed creative team of Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto. Considering how incredible their Daredevil run was, this is likely going to be a huge hit.
The series emerges from the events of Avengers: Armageddon, the upcoming five-issue event by Zdarsky, Delio Diaz, and Frank Alpizar that begins next week. Marvel is teasing a radically altered status quo in the aftermath, with Earth itself in need of saving as a new generation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assembles.
The debut roster features Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain Marvel, Daredevil, and Luke Cage, alongside a mysterious new hero whose identity remains under wraps.
Marvel is branding the team as “Earth’s Mightiest Survivors,” a phrase first teased earlier this week in promotional material hinting at the future of the Avengers line.
On taking over Marvel’s flagship team title, Zdarsky said, “It’s obviously a massive honor getting to write the world’s greatest super hero team! And after what happens in AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON, this lineup is angry as hell and ready to avenge.”
“AVENGERS is a book that should lead the Marvel Universe, where big things happen and surprises keep hitting,” Zdarsky continued. “That’s what Marco and I are doing with every issue and I can’t wait for people to fall in love with these gorgeous pages.”
The project reunites Zdarsky and Checchetto following their celebrated run on Daredevil.
“Here we go again. Chip and I, assembled,” Checchetto said. “We had a blast on Daredevil, and since wrapping up Ultimate Spider-Man, I’m thrilled there was an opportunity to do something new with him. It’s in moments like these where Chip’s utter madness comes through, and the result is right before your eyes.”
“I love this team,” Checchetto added. “It’s going to be great to see these characters interact with one another and see how they untangle themselves from the situations we’re going to throw them into.”
Zdarsky was equally enthusiastic about the reunion.
“It’s amazing to be working with Marco again,” he said. “Time and time again he proves he’s the best at giving us the coolest possible versions of these characters and what he’s doing in this book is next level.”
Editor Wil Moss teased that readers have only seen part of the picture.

Marvel also confirmed that Avengers #1 will be the next title to receive the publisher’s True Believers Blind Bag treatment. Similar to recent launches such as Queen in Black and DNX, the release will feature exclusive variant covers and rare hand-drawn sketch covers hidden inside sealed bags.
The road to the new series begins with Avengers: Armageddon #1, which arrives in comic shops on June 10. More details about the mystery hero, additional team members, and variant covers are expected in the weeks ahead.
