Marvel Comics is revisiting another untold chapter of Civil War this July, and this time the spotlight falls on the legacy of one of the event’s most tragic casualties.

The issue picks up in the aftermath of Bill Foster’s death during Civil War, a moment that remains one of the defining turning points of the event. Seeking justice for his fallen uncle, Tom Foster adopts the mantle of Goliath and sets his sights on Iron Man and those he believes are responsible.

In the wake of Bill Foster’s funeral, his nephew Tom sought vengeance against the heroes who caused his uncle’s death. Revisit the events of WORLD WAR HULK as Tom adopts Bill’s mantle to bring justice to IRON MAN and faces his first battle with the SUPER-ADAPTOID. As he’ll learn, becoming GOLIATH is no small feat…
The preview pages showcase exactly how difficult that role can be. Growing to enormous size, Goliath finds himself locked in combat with the Super-Adaptoid, with both figures towering over the city skyline as they exchange earth-shaking blows. The imagery immediately recalls the larger-than-life spectacle that defined many Marvel events of the era while highlighting the immense power Tom is still learning to control.
The series has already proven itself adept at exploring corners of Civil War that were left unexplored the first time around. In my review of Civil War: Unmasked #1, I said Gage’s ability to expand on established continuity while adding meaningful character depth.
Rather than rewriting history, the series has focused on finding new perspectives within familiar events. The debut issue used Tony Stark and Bishop to explore the mindset behind the Superhuman Registration Act, while also delivering energetic action and deep-cut Marvel continuity references. With Tom Foster now taking center stage, the latest issue appears poised to examine another emotional consequence of the conflict that reshaped the Marvel Universe.
Salazar’s artwork continues to be a major draw as well. The preview pages emphasize scale in a big way, with Goliath and Super-Adaptoid looming over skyscrapers and trading punches that feel worthy of the giant-sized legacy Bill Foster left behind.
