Is It Good? Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities and the Orm of Loch Ness #4 Review

Eric Powell and Kyle Hotz have created an interesting mix of folk hero turned carny turned monster hunter in his Billy The Kid series. This arc is written by Powell, and Tracy Marsh.

Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities and The Orm of Loch Ness #4 (Dark Horse)

Is It Good? Billy the Kid's Old Timey Oddities and the Orm of Loch Ness #4 Review

In this, the final issue of the Orm of Loch Ness arc, Billy finally goes to do battle with the beast of the Loch. A holy man accompanies him. This monster of the depths is actually a certain count from Transylvania. All Billy’s carny friends, save for the one who’s already an alligator man, are in a fishy way.

This is one of those explosive final issues that consists primarily of action panels and very little dialogue. It’s over in a flash, but you love every second of it.

Kyle Hotz does an excellent job. He draws spectacular monsters. Unnerving, tentacley, gilly humanoid and non-humanoid monsters. The colors pop, in a lot of neon greens, and purples. So, all praise is due for Dan Brown.

  • Great monster designs
  • Amazing color and shadow
  • A little busy
  • Lots shoved into this one story

Powell has thrown in the humor as he usually does, but makes things a little more somber in tone than he does in The Goon. A fun take on an old myth.

Is It Good?

A pulpy, beautiful comic, with lots of action. Good for horror fans. Good for Powell fans. Give this here comic a gander, it’s a doozy.
