In the sixth and final chapter of “Weapons of Mutants Destruction” Amadeus Cho is teamed up with a bunch of badass killers hellbent on stopping a scientist from combining the DNA of Hulk and Wolverine to make a “Hulkverine.” Not joking–that’s actually said in this comic. Oh boy, here we go!

Why does this matter?

Greg Pak combining Old Man Logan, Domino, Sabretooth, Warpath, and Lady Deathstrike into a team sounds flipping awesome. Having them team up with the good hearted Amadeus Cho and you have a recipe for good storytelling that’s great fun. Let’s see how this yarn ends!

Fine, you have my attention. What’s good about it?

Kill it with fire!

Dang people, Robert Gill kills it on this issue. I had to stop myself from turning the page more than once to ogle Domino wall running and shooting at the same time, or just to focus on Amadeus and where the enemy stuck its blades to understand how bad he got hit. Because Cho gets hit real bad. This is a bloodbath of a battle as Cho attempts to stop Old Man Logan and his crew from killing innocent folks while also saving an abomination scientists turned a once innocent kid into. Gill does a lot of good things, from making the scientist a psycho with her awe, and a rather awesome flash to Cho dealing with a demon he put away. The colors by Nolan Woodard aid in Gill’s excellent lines which make the monster the heroes fight at first incredibly gross (the dude drools green and his arms are just yuck) and the somewhat subdued look to Cho’s inner self perfect in its intensity.

Pak writes a mean issue too. This is a good conclusion with some major developments on three fronts. Cho has changed, maybe not for the better, and the events in this issue and the arc as a whole are certainly going places. Meanwhile, Old Man Logan and his crew have a new reason to fight alongside each other. On top of that, the villains are more interesting because of it and there’s a new outlier to be on the watch for. Pak has parlayed a miniseries-event into a kick off to many more good stories. That’s a win win if I ever saw one.

Wall running for the win!

It can’t be perfect can it?

Is the villain evil for evil’s sake? Yeah, she’s a bit flat, which might have more to do with the comic focusing on action and less on character, but she’s certainly rather simple here. Does the end leave more questions than answers? Yes to that too. I could see many folks feeling a bit cheapened by the ending with no real periods placed on any of the plots. If you dig the journey you’ll dig this, but don’t expect a wrap up.

Is It Good?

Call me a believer because I loved this event from beginning to end. It looked good, spun out some new stories for future comics, and seriously brought the 90’s vibe back.
