Marvel Comics, not to be outdone, has released a new teaser image to hype Kurt Busiek’s curated Marvels line that claims to be the “most ambitious series to ever hit the Marvel universe.” It’s certainly a believe it when you see it situation, but we do now it is coming in May.
Check out the teaser, and the glorious art by Alex Ross, below to see the teaser. It’s worth noting some of the biggest heroes at Marvel are in the image as well as new characters like Aero and a classic character not often used named Aarkus.
Over in my review of the Visionaries Jack Kirby trade paperback, this character popped up. I wrote:
Back in November 1940 Jack Kirby and Joe Simon created a character called The Vision in Marvel Mystery Comics #13. There are only a few pages here, but you can see how the Avengers Vision was inspired by this character, right down to the costume. In this version, also known as Aarkus, the character is an alien law enforcement officer from a dimension called Smokeworld. It’s also worth noting Kirby was playing around with layout ideas in this story as you can see arrows are used to guide the reader across the page.
Not only is this a cool way to pay tribute to Jack Kirby, but it’s a potentially untapped character to utilize. What say you Marvel readers, are you hyped for this one?
