ComicCon@Home ’21: The 2021 Eisner Awards winners

Big winners at the 2021 Eisner Awards include Gene Luen Yang, James Tynion IV, and Stan Sakai.

The 2021 Eisner Awards took place at the virtual Comic-Con@Home for the second year in a row this year with plenty of surprises. First and foremost, to be nominated is an incredible honor and is a distinction that proves the quality of their work is of a high caliber. Simply put, all the nominees are incredible creators and all the works listed below are worth checking out! You can watch the entire award show here.

As far as big winners are concerned, Gene Luen Yang came away with the most wins with three out of five Eisner Awards. Yang won two awards for Superman Smashes the Klan in Best Publication for Kids & Best Adaptation from Another Medium and his third win was for Best Publication for Teens (Dragon Hoops). As far as percentages are concerned, Stan Sakai won 100% of the two awards he was nominated for with Usagi Yojimbo for best lettering and best ongoing series.

In the everyone-is-paying-attention categories, James Tynion IV won for best writer, Kelly Thompson and Elena Casagrande won best new series for Black Widow, Junji Ito won best writer/artist for Remina, Venus in the Blind Spot, and Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen by Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber won for limited series and humor publication. Best cover artist went to Peach Momoko. Best penciler went to Michael Allred for Bowie: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams.

The Eisner Award Hall of Fame Inductees were Ruth Atkinson, Neil Gaiman, Scott McCloud, and Dave Cockrum. The Bob Clampet Humantiarian Award went to Mike and Christine Mignola.
