‘X-Terminators’ #4 continues to deliver raunchy superhero comics

‘X-Terminators’ #4 dials up the great raunchy humor as it barrels towards its final issue.

X-Terminators is, without a doubt, some of the most adult fun you can get out of a Big Two comic, possibly ever. Leah Williams is delivering raunchy jokes with over-the-top violence, in a package that looks fabulous thanks to Carlos Gomez. In the latest issue out this week, Wolverine, Jubilee, Dazzler, and Boom-Boom take a beat to figure out how to escape, and Dazzler’s ex-boyfriend Alex makes a big mistake.

That big mistake is underestimating his ex and their ingenuity, especially around toilets. Considering that isn’t even the raunchiest thing, nor the most outlandish statement you could say about this series, you’ll have a blast reading it. Basically, our heroes figure out an escape plan using literal toilets, which doubles as toilet humor that suits the series.

The issue opens with our heroes in Alex’s private collection of costumes with a few visual gags thrown in, like Woody from Toy Story as a costume option. Our heroes gain an advantage when they press Alex on being a total weirdo who likes to watch girls pee, and he lets loose how he’s working with the Collector at all and gives the overall story some weight as it all comes together. I can’t say I ever thought I’d see superheroes accuse a villain of being a “widdle baby” who “loves pee,” but it’s great fun, and it’s fun to see Marvel let Williams go full tilt with it.

As the story progresses, X-Men fans better purchase this for the baseball game alone (seriously, why aren’t the X-Men playing more sports?), and Williams offers up some nostalgic lines from Gambit. Williams also captures the demeanor of key characters like Emma Frost, who might not play, but they serve up the right kind of commentary on outfits.

Outside of this game, much of this issue is building toward the fifth concluding issue. That makes this issue feel a bit odd plot-wise as it resolves problems, creates new ones, and sets up the revenge plot Dazzler deserves. Ultimately the issue feels like it presses forward plot elements that could have used an issue or two to explore further or unveil, but it all adds up and makes sense at the end of the day.

Art by Gomez is great, leaning into the sexual energy of past issues and the sexuality of our heroes. It’s never cheesecake, but he’s not shying away from showing a tight top, either. This issue shows Gomez’s strength in drawing many characters in a single panel. There may not be a lot of action to draw, but there are certainly a lot of characters falling, sitting, or standing around from page to page.

X-Terminators #4 does the dirty work to get our heroes in the right place to enact well-deserved revenge on Vampire jerk ex-boyfriend Alex. Along the way, the story continues to be raunchy, funny, and adult-themed. That’s way too rare these days, which makes you wish each issue sells eight million copies to ensure more raunch comics, or at the very least more comics from Leah Williams.
