Courtesy of Comixology, AIPT can share an exclusive “Meet the Cast” for their upcoming series Raise Hell!. Written by Jordan Alsaqa with art by Ray Nadine, the first issue premiered on Amazon today.
So what’s Raise Hell! about?
In an alternate reality version of the mid-2000s, best friends Victor, Reeves, and Miri decide to end their summer vacation with a bang by summoning their own demonic familiar! Unfortunately, the sketchy mall kiosk they buy their ritual kit from isn’t the most trustworthy source, and the demon the summon up proves to be more of a headache than they ever could’ve prepared for.
Meet the cast below!
Victor Beck: Whether it’s studying up on demon lore or skanking out to third-wave ska, Victor doesn’t know how to do anything without overwhelming energy and outmatched passion. That passion has a history of pulling his friends into all manner of supernatural hijinks, including their decision to end their summer vacation by summoning Alistair as their personal demonic familiar. So far, things have worked out for the best, but his tendency to look before he leaps is sure to catch up with him one of these days.
Ashley Reeves: With a dyed-in-the-wool cynicism and a love for obscure bands most of her classmates have never even heard of, Reeves wears her punk cred proudly for all to see. Between her parents’ messy divorce and a falling out with her childhood friend group, she’s dealing with more trust and abandonment issues than most kids her age. Though she likes to front that she’s over it all, she lives with the constant worry that the people that love her the most are the ones that can cut the deepest. So while she cares a lot for Victor and Miri, she can’t help but keep her guard up, just in case her worst fears come true.
Miriam ‘Miri’ Elrahal: The youngest member of the group, Miri is a Palestinian-American teen with a love of manga and an extensive fanfiction bibliography. Her pragmatic nature often leaves her as the sole voice of reason in the group, though it’s rare that Victor and Reeves heed her advice. Of course, she’s still a teen, so her emotions can still get the best of her, whether that’s dealing with an unexpected crush or freaking out over the possibility of her father discovering she made a blood sacrifice to summon a demon from the depths below.
Alistair the Malicious: The gang’s demonic familiar, Alistair would be perfectly content to spend his days slouched on the couch eating junk food and playing video games. However, as a minion of a demonic king, Ali is expected to corrupt the souls of those who’ve summoned him. As such, he does all he can to make life difficult for Victor, Reeves, and Miri, even as he finds himself relating to the teens more than he expected. He’s a demon on a mission, but how far he’s willing to go to accomplish his goals is yet to be seen.
Douglas ‘Dougie’ Faircloth: Dougie is every “older brother’s friend who knows a guy who knows a guy” wrapped into a single greasy, nicotine-stained package. After years of tormenting Reeves in school, he’s made a bumpy transition from high-school graduate to entrepreneurial townie. His summer venture of opening an occult stand at the mall provides the gang with the materials they need to summon Ali, and once it shuts down, he continues looking for the perfect get-rich-quick scheme with the help of his own demonic familiar Belle.
Hannah Zellers: The leader of the school’s witch coven and Reeves’ former best friend. As the central source of magic for her coven, Hannah feels immense pressure to keep the balance among her friends. As a result, she often ignores or pushes down her own feelings, including the regret she feels about cutting Reeves out of the coven. The split also came as the two were beginning to develop feelings for one another, leaving her confused and uncertain about her own sexuality.
Renlo: Renlo is a half-demon teen and Dougie’s best friend. While Dougie is a live-wire schemer, Renlo is a still pond, content to go along for the ride with whatever plans his friend decides to get up to. In addition to his friendship with Dougie, he’s a member of the Spectral Science Club and shares Miri’s passion for manga.
Himiko Fuji: Whatever supernatural mysteries are hiding in the dark corners of Eklund, this ace investigator will drag them into the light! That’s Himiko’s dream, anyway, one she pursues as both the editor of Eklund High’s student newspaper and the president/founder of the Spectral Science Club. She throws herself fully into every adventure her dual roles bring her way, while also doing her best to manage the responsibilities that came with her positions.
