Marvel reveals summer 2024 ‘Weapon X-Traction’ story and variant covers

This summer, each issue containing a ‘WEAPON X-TRACTION’ backup will have a special variant cover highlighting the characters and upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film.

Press Release

Marvel Comics has revealed a new backup story called “Weapon X-Traction” is on the way in celebration of the Deadpool & Wolverine film this July. The team-up saga will run across eight Marvel titles, and each title that features a backup will have a special variant cover to accompany it. The backup series is written by Ryan North with art by Javier Garrón, beginning with Incredible Hulk #14 in July. The series will run through August in various issues of the current ongoing series.

“Javier is an insanely talented artist, and he is absolutely nailing the fine balance between comedy, violence, and big important feelings that characterize Deadpool,” North Said.” Taking him and Wolverine across the multiverse as they try to save everything – and not murder each other at the same time – has been a delight. The fact that this story will be appearing across tons of different Marvel comics in 5-page chunks has been a fun challenge too: I love me a formalist comic, and this is like a series of short films that also add up to a feature. I really think it’s something special!”

New York, NY— May 28, 2024 — It’s the summer of pop culture’s favorite frenemies: Deadpool and Wolverine! Just in time for Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine film this July, a special new team-up saga runs across eight Marvel titles this summer as bonus backup tales! Written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and drawn by Javier Garrón (Avengers), WEAPON X-TRACTION begins in July’s Incredible Hulk #14 and continues through August in various issues of current ongoing series. Fans will also find that each issue containing an installment of the saga will have a special WEAPON X-TRACTION VARIANT COVER.

Incredible Hulk #14 will have a teaser variant cover that uses Garrón’s promotional art for the story, while the remaining titles with WEAPON X-TRACTION backup stories will have covers with artwork in honor of the upcoming film and drawn by some of the industry’s hottest artists including Steve McNiven, Ryan Stegman, Jorge Molina, Cafu, Declan Shalvey and David Nakayama.

With no increase on the select issues’ pricing, the WEAPON X-TRACTION backup stories will give readers a dose of Wolverine/Deadpool action at no extra charge! Longtime comic readers know all too well that Deadpool and Wolverine together makes for more some of the wildest misadventures ever told in the Marvel Universe. WEAPON X-TRACTION will be no exception with a weary Wolverine and a clingy Deadpool on an epic journey across the Multiverse, battling zombies and gun-wielding librarians and—of course—one another! Violent, crass, and chaotic, it’s also perfect for new fans looking for a solid introduction to the comic book storytelling behind these two icons.

On penning this thrilling saga, North said, “Javier is an insanely talented artist, and he is absolutely nailing the fine balance between comedy, violence, and big important feelings that characterize Deadpool. Taking him and Wolverine across the multiverse as they try to save everything – and not murder each other at the same time – has been a delight. The fact that this story will be appearing across tons of different Marvel comics in 5-page chunks has been a fun challenge too: I love me a formalist comic, and this is like a series of short films that also add up to a feature. I really think it’s something special!”
