Courtesy of IDW, AIPT can exclusively share colored preview pages for TMNT: Nightwatcher, the ongoing series by writer Juni Ba and artist Fero Pe. Fans got their first taste of the series via TMNT Free Comic Book Day 2024. The series drops in a post Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #150 era.
Fans will know from the 2007 animated TMNT movie, this was the vigilante identity that Raphael used, but who is the Nightwatcher in the IDW universe? That’s the big question as this new vigilante steps into the scene.
“I really wanted the first issue to jump into the action right away,” Ba said in a statement sent to AIPT. “Give people a sense of the vibe to come just like a cartoon would. A sense of what this version of Nightwatcher is like before we reveal who is under the helmet at the end of the issue. It’s a pretty good self-contained setup for people to get a taste of what’s to come and see how they vibe with it.”
That’s right folks the identity won’t be hidden for long!
Ba also said in February, “I find the world of TMNT extremely fun and fascinating, and I want to use the character of Nightwatcher as an anchor to explore that world in an action-packed adventure format that I hope people will love,” said Ba. “While it’s a spin-off series, I do want it to stand on its own as something you like for itself, and not just because it’s tied to TMNT. Expect some heartfelt stories, Saturday morning action cartoon vibes and cool vigilante badassery!”
In regards to the preview, artist Fero Pe said, “First with page 1, the street, I wanted to represent a little the situation of the mutant town and the mutants who live there. “Something almost post-apocalyptic, that looked dirty and destroyed, but with a lot of life in it. And then, the story immediately jumps into the action, where I love these scenes that build up to a large full page.”
Pe added, “Juni is very good at writing these great scenes and then with Luis Antonio Delgado’s colors, the result is fantastic.”
