Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 06/10/2024

Our latest Channel Surfing TV picks have plenty of courtroom drama, supes, and dragons.

Our latest Channel Surfing TV picks have plenty of courtroom drama, supes, and dragons. Scott Turow’s novel, Presumed Innocent, receives a television adaptation. The Boys returns with more attempts at vigilante justice for all the superheroes behaving badly. Then, it’s a civil war for the Iron Throne in the second season of House of the Dragon

Framed for Murder?

In Presumed Innocent, the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office is turned upside down when one of its members is the lead suspect of a crime. Chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich is accused of murdering a colleague and former mistress. He must fight to clear his name all while navigating his complicated marriage as the victim brings up painful memories.

The series stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Sabich along with Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle and Renate Reinsve. Gyllenhall, David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams serve as executive producers. Kelley also serves as showrunner and writer.

Presumed Innocent premieres Wednesday, June 12, on Apple TV+.

Road to the White House

Just like in real life, The Boys season four is heading towards a presidential election. Victoria Neuman is knocking on the door of the Oval Office. Unfortunately, she’s merely a pawn in Homelander’s master plan to consolidate power.

Our only hope, the Boys, are in a crisis of their own. Butcher is estranged from his former crew due to all the lies, but he must somehow find a way back into their good graces if they hope to stop Homelander and the rest of The Seven. The clock is also ticking because Butcher only has a few months left to live.

The first three episodes of The Boys season four drop Thursday, June 13, on Prime Video.

The Rightful Heir

When we last left House of the Dragon, King Viserys’s death caused a struggle for the Iron Throne. Through political manipulation and maneuvering, Prince Aegon II gains power in King’s Landing, although Princess Rhaenyra also has claim to the throne. Both sides begin working behind the scenes to garner supporters throughout the realm. First blood is drawn when a Rhaenyra ally is killed by Prince Aegon’s brother.

In the new season, tensions are even higher upping the stakes to gain the support of the various houses of Westeros. Civil war is in the air as King Aegon’s Green Council and Queen Rhaenyra’s Black Council are building forces for their respective side.

House of the Dragon season two debuts Sunday, June 16, on HBO.
