Love, laughter, and global conspiracy collide in ‘The Guy in the Chair’

Dark Horse brings spy thrills and romantic comedy together in ‘The Guy in the Chair’, a four-issue series launching this October.

Dark Horse Comics is teaming up with writer-actor duo Hannah Rose May and Utkarsh Ambudkar for The Guy in the Chair, a brand-new four-issue comic series that blends spy thriller action with romantic comedy. Launching this October, the book features art by Guillermo Sanna (Savage Wolverine), colors by Dearbhla Kelly (Human Remains), and lettering by Steve Wands (The Flash).

May, already known for Rogues’ Gallery and The Exorcism at 1600 Penn, joins forces with Ambudkar—star of Ghosts and World’s Best—to tell a hilarious and heartfelt story about two covert operatives caught between duty and desire.

The series follows Abhi, a tactical analyst and “guy in the chair” at a private military company, who breaks all the rules by falling in love with Merlin, the elite field agent he supports. But when she shows up at his door injured and on the run, Abhi is thrust into the field himself, uncovering a conspiracy that could spell doom for the entire world.

May and Ambudkar, who became friends on the set of Ghosts, call the comic their “love letter” to both comics and comedy, and say the series was a blast to write.

The Guy in the Chair #1 hits comic shops on October 8, 2025, for $4.99. Visit Comic Shop Locator for more details and stores near you.
