WWE Superstar and TNA legend AJ Styles will officially appear at TNA Slammiversary this Sunday, July 20. TNA confirmed the news on their website and social media channels this morning.
Speculation began to run rampant when TNA President Carlos Silva tweeted that additional seats would be added to Slammiversary, which is already slated to be one of TNA’s most successful shows ever, and added, “trust me it’s going to be PHENOMENAL”. That’s about as big a hint as you can get, but to make it crystal clear, TNA ran a promo video on iMPACT! confirming the news.
AJ Styles wrestled for TNA from the company’s inception in 2002 all the way to 2014, when he split his time between New Japan Pro Wrestling and the American independent circuit. He joined WWE in 2016, debuting as a surprise entrant in that year’s Royal Rumble match. With the ongoing relationship between TNA and WWE’s NXT brand, many fans thought it was just a matter of time until arguably the most important figure in TNA’s history made an appearance once again.
Styles is a 5 time TNA World Champion, 6 time X-Division Champion, 6 time TNA Tag Team Champion, and is a Grans Slam Champion in WWE, holding the WWE Championship, Intercontinental, United States, and Raw Tag Team Championships.
TNA Slammiversary airs live this Sunday, July 20 from the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York. Other attractions include a TNA World Championship match between champion Trick Williams, Joe Hendry, and Mike Santana, a title vs. title match between TNA Knockouts Champion Masha Slamovich and NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne, and more.
