Made Men has quickly become one of my favorite comics this year. Jutte Frankenstein and her team were gunned down and left for dead. But you can’t keep a good thing down, or in this case, a good crew. Jutte tapped into her Frankenstein bloodline and resurrected her team. They might be pieced together, but what’s a girl to do? Jutte worked with what she had and actually created a pretty bad ass team.

What’s going on in this issue?

Made Men #4 picks up at the thrilling cliffhanger issue three ended with. Jutte, Italian suffragist turned modern woman, and Hadry have cornered Captain Grange. The pair wants to know who ordered the hit on Jutte and her squad. The Captain knows something but before they are able to obtain any information, the sniper that was keeping a close eye on them takes a shot. Fortunately for Jutte, her senses are heightened and she is able to dodge the shot. The Captain isn’t as lucky, as Leo, the hybrid human-lion doesn’t understand what is going on. He only understands when Jutte is in danger and reacts to the situation, thus ripping the Captain’s throat out.

A pretty intense way to begin Made Men #4! And the rest of the issue is just as interesting. It lacks the action of the first few pages, but the story is fascinating and the characters are so interesting that the action isn’t always needed. Jutte Frankenstein wants to use her powers for good. She wants to help others who have lost that certain someone in their life. With the help of Detective Larkin, Jutte begins to roll out her agenda.

So Dave, is it good?

Yes! This issue is just as awesome as the previous three. Paul Tobin has created a fun world. When I first read the premise of Made Men, I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I have. Tobin has taken the time to work Jutte and Hadry’s past into the story just right. There are breaks in the action to dive into the past of Jutte’s grandmother, who was the real brains in the family, and not Victor. Hadry is probably my favorite character at the moment. She is so well written. She was a lesbian suffragist, not allowed to explore sexuality, vote, or have any of the freedoms that women have today. Now that Hadry realizes all the possibilities in front of her, she is doing her best to take advantage of them all. It is both fun and enlightening.

Arjuna Susini’s artwork is incredible. The details of the characters are tight. The scenes involving nudity are tastefully done — sultry, not slutty — and the scenery is gorgeous. The details in each building caught my eye and I can only guess at the amount of time Susini put into it. Gonzalo Duarte’s colors complement the artwork with the choice of dark colors. They have a horror film vibe to it, and I love it!

If you are a horror fan or a fan of Frankenstein, I highly recommend you checking out Made Men. It’s an interesting twist to the Frankenstein lineage, complete with action, well fleshed out characters, and a dynamic story. I love when I cross paths with comic books that surprise me as much as Made Men. Do yourself a favor and add it to your pull list.

Interesting and fun twist on the Frankenstein tale
Gorgeous artwork and colors
Tobin's depth that he has given the characters
Leo, gotta love Leo
As much as I am enjoying Jutte and Hadry, I would like to see more of the other characters
