Netflix has renewed The Umbrella Academy for a second season.
The adaptation of the comic book series with the same name will return to Netflix for its second season in a mirror form of the first, with 10 hour-long episodes. Production is slated to begin this summer in Toronto.
Returning for Season 2 are Season 1 cast members Ellen Page (Vanya), Tom Hopper (Luther), Emmy-Raver Lampman (Allison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), Aidan Gallagher (Number Five), and Justin H. Min (Ben). Series showrunner Steve Blackman will be returning as well, alongside executive producers Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, and Jeff F. King.
Series creators Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá will remain in their roles of co-executive producers. Borderline Entertainment, Dark Horse Entertainment and Universal Cable Productions will continue to produce the series..
The Umbrella Academy follows the peculiar event on October 1, 1989, in which 43 women from around the world give birth simultaneously, despite none of them showing any sign of pregnancy prior to the start of labor. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, the eccentric billionaire, inventor, and explorer — adopts seven of the children and through a brutal upbringing turns them into a superhero team dubbed “The Umbrella Academy”. In the present day, the children, now grown and estranged, have reunited after the death of their father and must deal with stopping an impending world-ending apocalypse.
