ABLAZE has announced it will publish The Lycan, the Eisner Award-nominated horror series originally released through Comixology Originals, marking the first time the comic will be available in print.
The announcement follows news that The Lycan has been nominated for the 2026 Eisner Award in the Best Digital Comic category. The series was developed through actor Thomas Jane’s Renegade Entertainment banner, with Jane serving as creator and editor. You can hear Jane talk all about the project via the AIPT Comics podcast.
Based on a story by Jane and writer-producer David James Kelly, The Lycan features scripts by Mike Carey, artwork by Diego Yapur, colors by D.C. Alonso, lettering by AndWorld Design, and covers by Tim Bradstreet and Liam Sharp.
ABLAZE plans to release the story as three double-sized issues beginning in September 2026. The second issue will follow in October, with the finale arriving in November. A collected trade paperback edition featuring bonus material is scheduled for February 2027.
“The Lycan is a passion project of mine that had a heartbreaking false start over a decade ago and I put it away in a drawer — if it wasn’t for my partner Courtney Penn at Renegade, that’s where it would remain today,” said Thomas Jane. “We are so proud to see The Lycan nominated for an Eisner and for it to come out in print in the same year. It is a tribute to the brilliant writers and artists we are fortunate enough to work with, and the gracious support of Comixology.”
Set in 1777, The Lycan follows a group of seasoned international hunters returning home from a successful African expedition. After becoming shipwrecked near a remote British island, they strike a bargain with the island’s ruler, Lord Ludgate. In exchange for supplies and repairs to their vessel, they agree to hunt down mysterious creatures responsible for a string of grisly deaths.
What begins as a straightforward monster hunt soon spirals into something far darker as the hunters encounter threats beyond anything they anticipated.

Mike Carey reflected on the long road to publication, saying, “The Lycan was more than a decade in the making, but some things just get better as they mature. It’s been a privilege and an adventure to be a part of this project, this team. And to see the series finally out in the world as a physical book, to see it get an Eisner nomination… I have no words. Ironically.”
ABLAZE Publisher Rich Young highlighted the publisher’s enthusiasm for bringing the digital series to a wider audience.
“Comixology Originals continues to put out excellent stories and The Lycan is no exception,” said Young. “It is a haunting gothic horror story with werewolves by an outstanding creative team, and we’re thrilled to bring the series to print and expand their readership in comic shops and bookstores.”
For Jane, the print release represents a longtime goal finally becoming reality.
“My dream has always been to sit in a mom-and-pop comic shop and sign copies of The Lycan. Now ABLAZE is making that dream come true. What a long, strange trip it’s been! I couldn’t be happier and I can’t wait for readers to get their hands on the book.”
