War of the Realms comes with many tie-in stories, but are they all worth it? This week we get a closer look at the “War Avengers” in the Strikeforce one-shot. It’s got a killer heroic lineup, but is it good?

Why does this matter?
Dennis Hallum with Ario Anindito and Kim Jacinto are delivering quite a cool concept to our comic shops. An Avengers team built for war. This team ties directly into the third issue of the main event giving a backstory on how this team came together. With Deadpool involved you know it’ll be silly.

Hallum has a fantastic handle of Deadpool. He’s silly, funny, and makes jokes about stuff like the upcoming Black Widow movie. It’s delightful and he livens up the story very well. He opens the book well which leads to a Namor encounter, a team assembling scene, and then a covert ops attack involving, you guessed it, Black Widow. Weapon H and Venom are clearly the heavies and it’s fun to see them tear through Ice Giants. This issue ties well into the War of the Realms #3 too, albeit it’s a bit odd this came out when it does.
There are quite a few wrinkles to enjoy here too. Captain Marvel’s leadership is on point and it’s interesting to see her take on the war effort. There’s a check in with Captain Britain that’ll make you want a Captain Britain comic series, and Black Knight, and his sword are clearly a focus too.
Jacinto and Anindito do a good job drawing the issue with the help of Java Tartaglia and Felipe Sobreiro on colors. Judging by the style it appears they split duties on the book and both manage to capture the moody darker tone of a waring Avengers group. Given the members of the team, it makes sense too.
Namor is kind of a villain these days.

It can’t be perfect, can it?
This isn’t exactly a must-read tie-in by any means. The big turn with Venom already took place in the main book so this is for folks who want a little more War Avengers.
Captain Marvel is a bit downtrodden too and less a fearless leader and more of a tired one. The weight of the war is hard to gauge since we don’t really see it here so she comes off as a bit quick to give up on a mission or two they go on. They truck on, but it left her more wartorn than one might expect.
Is it good?
If you love Deadpool buy this book as he’s captured very well. As tie-in series go you could skip it, but it’s a good time with plenty of action. Why not relent and take in some War Avengers?
