Venom #20 is an epilogue for Absolute Carnage, but in a lot of ways, it’s more of the beginning of an entirely new direction. The Maker, aka Mr. Fantastic from the Ultimate Universe, takes up much of the issue detailing things he’s learned and theories on Venom, Symbiotes, and Dylan himself. All of which is incredibly revealing and should have fans talking for some time.

While I won’t spoil it all–this issue has multiple reveals–I will point out the way Symbiotes work is changing based on what we learn in this issue. Most of what we learn is from The Maker and his findings. He’s speaking to someone off-panel and details how Symbiotes have historically been born when there is an impending danger to the hive. The Maker dubs it a “collective unconscious response.”
He explains over a single page how Symbiotes like Scorn, Raze, Sleeper, Carnage, and Toxin (among others) were created around threats to the hive.
A fascinating idea to say the least. But what about Dylan? As we’ve learned he is the direct descendent of Venom and Eddie Brock. But how? The Maker explains…
In only a few pages and only a couple of reveals in this issue, The Maker details a major theory about Symbiotes, how Dylan is some kind of Symbiote/Human hybrid, and that a huge threat is coming. Presumably, it is Knull, but knowing Donny Cates there’s a big surprise in store about that too.
