In a press release yesterday, Warner Media announced that DC Comics would be donating $250,000 to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC) to help support comic shops affected by COVID-19 closings.
The statement reads in part:
In response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and its impact on the comic book direct market, DC is donating $250,000 to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC) to provide support for comic book retailers and their employees during this time of hardship and beyond.
BINC was specifically set up to help bookstore employees in need, so this should definitely help some folks who aren’t able to work right now.
In addition to the donation, renowned artist and DC Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee recently announced on his Instagram page that he would be drawing 60 sketches over 60 days and putting them up for auction. The proceeds would go a random local comic shop and the high bidder gets to pick the next character for Lee to draw.
The eBay auction pages for Jim’s Lee’s sketches can be found here.
If you are in position where you can donate to BINC and would like help, you can make a donation here.
