Following an announcement from William Regal on today’s episode of The Bump, WWE has confirmed that NXT will host a tournament to find an interim Cruiserweight champion. Jordan Devlin, the current Cruiserweight champ, is unable to defend the title in the U.S., the U.K., or just about anywhere else he would need to travel due to COVID-19 related travel bans that have him quarantined in his native Ireland.
As first announced by @RealKingRegal on @WWETheBump, a tournament will be held to determine an interim #WWENXT #CruiserweightChampion as @Jordan_Devlin1 is in the U.K. and unable to defend his title due to current circumstances.https://t.co/p5SbF3BAFj

Devlin weighed in on the decision in a cut-from-home promo posted to Twitter where he promised that, as soon as bans were lifted, he would appear to defend the title proper and prove that there is “only one Irish Ace, and only one NXT Cruiserweight champion”. For his part, the previous Cruiserweight champion, Lio Rush posted a promo that indicated he was ready for NXT to “dial some things back” and re-introduce him to the title.

This is the first notable pivot from the norm for WWE since the no audience WrestleMania last weekend, but it may not be the last as Pete Dunne the Bruiserweight — one half of the NXT Tag Team champion team with Matt Riddle — is also quarantined and unable to compete in NXT’s upcoming TV tapings.
