COVID-19 has disrupted much of Hollywood, cutting seasons short and delaying others. One thing to come out of the pandemic are unique approaches to filming that promote social distancing. Recently, Parks and Recreation shot their entire special remotely allowing fans one last night with the fine folks of Pawnee. It looks like another NBC show, The Blacklist, has taken a different route.
The seventh season finale will be a unique live-action and graphic novel-style hybrid. The 19th episode, entitled, “The Kazanjian Brothers”, was in the middle of filming before being forced to shut down. In order to finish the episode, producers decided to add graphic novel-style animation that could be incorporated with already shot footage.
The cast recorded their lines for the animated scenes from their homes. Then to ensure a seamless transition, animators and editors completed their work remotely.
In the episode, the team investigate an accountant who works for lucrative criminals in order to find the violent and thuggish brothers hired for his protection. Liz must then make a momentous decision. The late Brian Dennehy is set to guest star in one of his last on film roles.
Watch the season finale of The Blacklist this May 15 (8 p.m. ET/PT) on NBC.
