Channel Surfing: Awesome TV Picks for the week of 05/25/2020

HBO Max launches, the Agents of SHIELD’s last adventure and Steve Carell leads the Space Force.

This week, we see a new heavyweight enter the crowded streaming service market. HBO Max is set to launch bringing with it one of our Channel Surfing TV picks, the rom-com anthology series, Love Life. The countdown begins towards the final episode of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD as its final season will premiere. Later in the week, some of the people behind The Office return with the new work place comedy, Space Force.

The Warner Media Answer to Disney+

Warner media is set to join the streaming wars this week with their ambitious project, HBO Max. They have a large catalog to draw from including classic and current hits on TV and film. It also includes a slate of exclusive original programming.

The platform will launch with six Max Originals including a docuseries, a pair of reality competitions and a talk show. Also included is their first full-length, live-action scripted series, Love Life. It is a romantic comedy anthology that focuses on a new protagonist every season and follows their journey from first love to last and how the experiences shape them. Check out our first impressions of the show.

HBO Max launches on Wednesday, May 27.

A Time Traveling Adventure

Agents of SHIELD is the first and longest running series from the now defunct Marvel Television. The show is heading into its final season, which will also premiere on Wednesday, May 27. What first began as a TV spinoff of the still developing MCU has continually reinvented and transformed itself for what will be seven seasons.

When the series returns, we find the crew traveling through time trying to prevent the Chronicoms from conquering earth. Though they first find themselves in the U.S. circa 1931, they most likely will jump to other periods as we already know there is a cross over with Agent Carter’s Daniel Sousa.

 Ready for Lift-Off

The Office collaborators, Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, are partnering again for a new series entitled, Space Force. The workplace comedy is set to premiere later this week on Netflix.

Fiction imitates real life as a new branch of the military is developed; the titular Space Force. A four-starred general (Carell) is tasked with leading the new branch and getting Americans back on the moon to prove the nation’s interstellar dominance.

Space Force premieres Friday, May 29, on Netflix.
