WWE NXT commentator Nigel McGuinness has been absent from WWE programming for some time now, which in itself is not unusual given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As it turns out McGuinness is absent due to COVID-19, but not because of any travel restrictions, which probably wouldn’t affect him to begin with considering that he resides in Los Angeles and not the UK.
According to a report out of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Nigel McGuinness was one of the many staff members furloughed by WWE last month when WWE President and CEO Vince McMahon held a conference call with WWE employees to announce financial cutbacks across the board, including the furloughing and termination of a portion of their corporate and live event staff.
Nigel McGuinness was announced as a member of the WWE NXT commentary team as part of WWE Premiere Week during September of last year. He was announced as a color commentator alongside Beth Phoenix, with Mauro Ranallo on play-by-play.
In addition to Nigel McGuinness, WWE has also furloughed the majority of their corporate staff, as well as nine backstage producers, including: Billy Kidman, Mike Rotunda, Dave Finlay, Pat Buck, Shawn Daivari, Scott Armstrong, Sarah Stock, Shane Helms, and Lance Storm.
