Horror movies have a bad habit of relying on nostalgia. On the surface, this is not a bad idea. After all, the genre has a rich history to pull from. There have also been plenty of titles that have done a good job of using horror’s past to scare modern audiences. The first season of Stranger Things is a great example. The problem becomes when movies think nostalgia is all that is needed to make their story work. There have been a number of remakes that have done nothing original in hopes of cashing in on fond memories.
The Wretched wears its influences on its sleeve. It is a loving homage to the horror movies of the 1980s. But is there more to it? Nathaniel and special guest Regina discuss the movie’s inspirations, its characters, and the power of witches.
