If you’re a fan of AIPT then you know X-Men Monday delivers big questions and even bigger answers every week with a bevy of guests with Senior X-Men Editor Jordan D. White usually at the helm. This week, the Head of X himself Jonathan Hickman, and surprise guest Tini Howard joined in too. I highly suggest you read the column as there are many answers that hint at what is to come in 2021–Nightcrawler AND Storm are getting more attention for instance.
Possibly one of the biggest nuggets is what is going on with X-Corp. Originally, the series was revealed in Captain Marvel #11 as Carmen Carnero revealed they would be drawing a new X-Men series in the mailbag section. In the article, she says the book would be coming on February 2, 2020.
Well, that never happened, but guess what? Jonathan Hickman revealed it’s still in the works in X-Men Monday today!
AIPT: Also in front of us–possibly new Warren and Monet content, at least based on the Reign of X teaser image. Many X-Fans–including Rod Custerman–are wondering if the X-Corp and Moira series are still in the works.
Jonathan: Yes, we’re doing the X-Corp book. Everyone is very excited about it. We actually locked down both the interior and cover artist this week. I can’t remember which month it’s actually going to debut because the company has some funky scheduling coming up and we’re shifting things around, but there will be a formal announcement with the creative team and roster and all that soon.
No word yet if Carnero is still drawing the book since she has dipped her toes into the Dawn of X run by drawing a few issues of Hellions. That said, I highly recommend you read S.W.O.R.D. #1 this week which begins to flesh out the X-Men line into space!
We do know this has been in the works for some time, as Jordan D. White answered in X-Men Monday #41 when he explained books get revealed at different times because “Jonathan’s a long-term planner.” Considering his answer below was delivered nearly a year ago, I’d say he’s very right about long-term plans!
AIPT: Speaking of new X-Series, when can we finally expect announcements regarding all the new titles that have been teased? The Moira comic, the Leah Williams comic, the Vita Ayala comic, the resurrection comic, another Hickman comic and X-Corp?
Jordan: Kind of the corollary to only telling the stories that we want to tell, we also want to make sure they’re ready before we put them out. So some things you’re going to hear soon and other things you’re going to hear further away because Jonathan’s a long-term planner. So some of these things are longer term plans. Of the things you mentioned just now, some of them will be announced soon, others you’re going to be waiting a bit, but it’s worth it.
If I had to guess who would write X-Corp, I’d think Si Spurrier might be at the helm since he’s joining the Reign of X team in 2021. That said, there’s no telling who Jonathan Hickman hopes to have fill both artist and writing duties on the series.
