Marvel reveals ‘Demon Days’ to continue with Nightcrawler, Black Widow, and more

Peach Momoko’s ‘Demon Days’ continues this June.

Out this week, Marvel Comics has released a new series written and drawn by Peach Momoko called Demon Days. The first issue focused on the X-Men, read our review here, with the second issue set to launch in June focusing on Mariko Yashida. That’s not all, Marvel has also revealed future issues will focus on Nightcrawler and Black Widow.

Momoko spoke to Marvel laying out the series, first with X-Men and Psylocke, but the second issue is completely different. “Different timeline, different characters (even the main character is changing), a different tone to the story. But it is still a connecting story.”

“The second issue starts with the new main character [Mariko Yashida] and is a story that I originally pitched to CB a couple of years ago. The connection between the first issue and the rest of the series is that they are all based in Mt. Kirisaki. The first issue is a folktale about Mt. Kirisaki. And the rest of the series is about characters having a deep relationship with the mountain. After the first issue, I will be telling a traditional Japanese folktale with a modern twist.

Momoko explained her take is to turn Marvel characters into yokai, kami, and other Momoko-verse ideas from Japanese folklore. Yes that’s right, there’s a Momoko-verse! “They all look different, act different… but I hope everyone will still enjoy my version of the Marvel world,” Momoko added.
