On Top Chef, the contestants were still reeling from Sara’s departure last week. Even Dawn, who you could argue played a significant role in the competitor’s elimination by finalizing her dish so late, felt a little guilty. Nonetheless, the show must go on. For the quickfire, they had their first celebrity in-person guests with Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein paying a visit. The Portlandia stars wanted the chefs to create a dish that featured “hipster” ingredients. As an added challenge, they had to use vintage cooking equipment.
Most celebrity chefs today not only run restaurants but also sell their own cookbooks. In the elimination, the contestants had to create a recipe for a dish that a regular home chef could execute. Their directions were put to the test with some of the all-stars cooking the same meal in parallel and the judges compared how similar the two dishes were.
