Comics creators condemn news of Warren Ellis’s return to comics

News of Warren Ellis’s quiet return to comics has been met with ire by the comics community at large.

Update June 24, 2021: Since publishing this piece, So Many of Us has issued an update that Warren Ellis has reached out for the first time today for a mediated dialogue

Update June 25, 2021: Image has since provided a statement, which you can read here.

Earlier this week, artist Ben Templesmith revealed on his social media accounts that he and Warren Ellis will be teaming up to finish their Image Comics series, Fell. Last June, Ellis was accused by dozens of women and non-binary individuals of sexual misconduct, whose statements have been collected at SoManyOfUs.com.

“We reaffirm our call for Warren Ellis to earn the opportunity to become the man so many people believed him to be,” the website reads at the end of its latest update.

On June 18th of last year, Warren Ellis responded to the allegations via tweet containing a series of screenshots. That tweet has been removed, but can be viewed here.

Since this news broke, there have been many responses, including from his accusers, which Gizmodo has laid out clearly. Comics creators have also taken to Twitter to make it clear where they stand when it comes to Ellis rejoining the comics industry. Creators like Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Evan Dorkin are just a few of said creators.

Fell originally published between 2005 and 2008 with nine issues released.

We have reached out to Image Comics about this story. As of this writing, Image has not responded to requests for comment. On June 25th, Image Comics responded to our request for comment with a statement, which you can read here.
