Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 07/19/2021

A pair of animated series and a feel-good sports story.

Our Channel Surfing TV picks of the week include a pair of animated series and a feel-good sports story. Baby dolls come to life in the stop-motion series, Ultra City Smiths. Then watch if AFC Richmond can bounce back after a heartbreaking game last season in Ted Lasso. Finally, catch up with some old friends from the 80s in Masters of the Universe: Revelation.

We’re on the Case

Ultra City is an all too familiar metropolitan found in many noir stories. Both crime and corruption run rampant and everyday people are paying the price. However, in this world, everyone is a baby doll. Ultra City Smiths is a stop motion animated series created by Steve Conrad and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.

The city’s most powerful and famous magnate goes missing and a pair of detectives are tasked with solving the mystery. During the course of the investigation, they are taken to some of the darkest corners but the two continue to fight for making their home a much safer place.

The first two episodes of Ultra City Smiths will premiere Thursday, July 22, on AMC+.

Back on the Pitch

When Ted Lasso debuted last year, it caught viewers by surprise. It was very positive, wholesome and feel good in its own way. The critics seemed to have agreed and this year on the awards circuit, the series has been racking up nominations left and right.

Before we find out if the show about the underdogs can take home the big prizes, it will return for a second season. After being relegated, we’ll see what kind of reinforcements AFC Richmond will bring in and whether the fellas can earn back promotion into the Premier League. Not to mention all the good fun the series is known for.

Season two of Ted Lasso begins Friday, July 23, on Apple TV+.

I Have the Power!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was a beloved children’s cartoon from the 80s that ran for two seasons. Though there were 130 episodes of the original, there were still unresolved storylines when it ended. Over 30 years later, fans will hopefully receive some closure in the upcoming Masters of the Universe: Revelation which is a direct sequel.

All of the main favorite heroes and villains will return including He-Man, Man-At-Arms, Skeletor, and Evil-Lyn but the story will bring Teela more to the forefront. Following a devastating battle that fractures Eternia, she leads an unlikely alliance trying to stop the end of the Universe.

Stream the first part of Masters of the Universe: Revelation this Friday, July 23, on Netflix.
