What to watch during the 31 Days of Halloween

You will never be at a loss.

31 Days of Halloween is the time of year to watch your favorite scary movies. You watch old favorites and you try out the stuff everyone has told you about. You may even just watch some random scary movies. But as much as the season is about films you have to check out, there are also certain types of movies you have to make it a point to see.

Anthologies (Suggestion: The Mortuary Collection)

One of the most popular Halloween movies is Trick ‘R Treat. It tells a number of fun stories and introduced the world to one of October’s most popular characters in Sam. While it may be the anthology everyone thinks of, there are plenty of great movies in the genre. Anthologies do a great job of getting to the black heart of Halloween. They are a bunch of scary stories to tell in the dark.

B Horror (Suggestion: The Toxic Avenger)

What to watch during the 31 Days of Halloween

B horror movies were at the height of their powers in the 1980s. Filmed on low budgets, these films went all out in delivering the most disgusting kills and having plots that made the least sense. What they lacked in quality, they made up for in the fun they delivered. They have a charm that perfectly captures the spirit of Halloween. If nothing else, they are can be a fresh of breath air if your 31 Days are filled with darker entries.

Extreme (Suggestion: The Sadness)

the sadness

What horror movie marathon can truly be called complete if it does not include something that is completely disgusting? Whether it is something visceral or a little more abstract, there is no shortage of movies that can freak you out this month. The important thing is the movie stays with you and makes it a little bit harder to sleep at night.

Family Friendly (Suggestion: Monster House)

What to watch during the 31 Days of Halloween

31 Days of Halloween should capture the spirit of Halloween and to really do that, you have to watch some family friendly horror movies. Since the holiday is such a popular one among children, there are plenty of great films everyone can gather around and watch. From animated features to live action, it is easy to find something for everybody. As a plus, they happen to be some of the best Halloween stories out there.

Found Footage (Suggestion: V/H/S/94)

V/H/S/94

Shudder

The best horror movies give audiences a sense of realism. What better way than to pretend what is being shown is actually real? The same can be said of scary stories. The best ones are based in reality. Found footage is one of the most polarizing genres out there, but if you only watch them once a year, then this is the time to do it. As technology changes, the genre changes, always managing to keep things somewhat fresh.
