Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 12/20/2021

Our Channel Surfing TV picks include a musical holiday special and a pair of movies you can stream.

It’s the week of Christmas and sometimes television can be a little slow. But worry not because we’ll still bring you some quality Channel Surfing TV picks. Musical group, LCD Soundsystem receive their very own holiday special. There’s another pandemic surge hitting now so if you don’t want to risk going to theaters, you can stream The Matrix: Resurrections at home. Then the gang get back together again for a new case in Reno 911! The Hunt for QAnon.

Rocking the Holidays

If you were one of the fans disappointed in missing the last shows of LCD Soundsystem’s Brooklyn residency because it was cancelled, you still might have the chance to see them perform live virtually during their holiday special. It might not be the same experience, but there is still tons of fun planned for the event.

The special will kick off with a 90s style sitcom spoof entitled All My Friends featuring recognizable actors portraying the different members of the band including Eric Wareheim, Macaulay Culkin, Aparna Nancherla and more. Afterwards, the real group will come on stage and perform a concert.

Catch the LCD Soundsystem Holiday Special this Wednesday, December 22, on both the Amazon Music Twitch channel and Prime Video.

Returning to the Source

It has been almost 20 years since the last film of The Matrix franchise was released in theaters. At the time, the Wachowskis thought the third installment was the conclusion of the saga and didn’t intend to develop any additional movies. However, in 2019 it was announced a fourth film would be made with Lana Wachowski coming back solo to direct.

In The Matrix: Resurrections, it seems as though both Neo and Trinity are living regular lives and have no clue who each other are. That is until a new version of Morpheus, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, comes along and offers Mr. Thomas A. Anderson a red pill and his whole world is turned upside down. Hopefully, this movie will give our couple a better ending than the what we were left with all those years ago.

Stream The Matrix: Resurrections for one month beginning Wednesday December 22, on HBO Max.

Getting to the Bottom

Reno 911! has encountered a second life after Comedy Central canceled the mockumentary series. Last year it was revived on the short-form streaming platform, Quibi, and received awards recognition when it was nominated for a Primetime Emmy and Critic’s Choice Award. Now it has an exclusive streaming event.

This time, the police force from “The Biggest Little City in the World” are after the Q from all the QAnon conspiracies. They gang go from bad to worse in escaping a QAnon convention on a cruise ship to landing on Jeffrey Epstein’s old island.

Reno 911! The Hunt for QAnon premieres Thursday, December 23, on Paramount+.
