‘Quantum Leap’ reboot set to air on NBC

‘Quantum Leap’ may finally make the jump to your flat screen television or laptop.

On Thursday, Nellie Andreeva of Deadline.com reported that NBC has moved forward with plans for a reboot of their hit sci-fi series Quantum Leap. A pilot has been ordered with La Brea co-showrunners Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt writing/producing. Quantum Leap creator Don Bellisario will serve as an executive producer along with Deborah Pratt (a writer/producer on the original series) and Blind Spot creator Martin Gero.

For those of you who aren’t old, Quantum Leap was about a man named Sam Beckett, a physicist who’s hurled through spacetime while attempting to produce a viable method of time travel. Instead of simply existing as himself, however, he “leaps” into other identities that require him to fix something that’s wrong with the past. He continues traveling through the latter half of the century in the hopes his next leap will lead him home.

I’m really not doing the premise of the show justice, so check out the nostalgia-inducing intro from the show below.

In addition to all the various time periods the show was set, it had the ability to exist within multiple genres — from action, romance, sports, comedy and even horror.

According to Andreeva’s report, the new series would be set in the same continuity as the original one, but 30 years later (i.e. present day). In this iteration, a new team has been put together to restart Beckett’s time travel project. It’s also very likely that series lead Scott Bakula would return to the role — something old school fans of the show like myself would love since the poor guy never got to make the leap home.
