Channel Surfing: Awesome TV picks for the week of 02/07/2022

This week’s Channel Surfing TV picks include a pair of animated series and reboot of a beloved 90s show.

The Super Bowl might receive most of the attention, but there is plenty of other good things to watch on the old boob tube this week. For our Channel Surfing TV picks, we have a pair of animated series and reboot of a beloved 90s show. Running a small town can be hard and hilarious in Fairview. Bean has more adventures when Disenchantment returns. Then, the Fresh Prince turns dark in the reboot Bel Air.

Small Town, Huge Issues

Fairview is a brand-new show executive produced by Stephen Colbert. It explores how national politics extends its reach into the smallest of towns and how the citizens of the titular place overreact in the most entertaining of ways. From unemployment, climate change, vaccines and more, we watch it all go down through the lens of the sloppy party girl turned mayor.

The series boast a talented voice cast including Marina Cockenberg, James Austin Johnson, Aparna Nancherla, Jeremy Levick, Blair Socci, Graham Techler, Atsuko Okatsuka, Otter Lee, Carl Foreman Jr, Jack Bensinger, Lisa Gilroy, and Joey Romaine.

Fairview premieres Wednesday, February 9, on Comedy Central.

Saving the Kingdom

When we last left Disenchantment, Bean is crowned queen after her father is deemed unfit to lead. She is then brought to Hell by her mother to marry. Elsewhere, Elfo is held prisoner by the ogres and Luci finds himself in one of the last places he’d ever expect.

In part four, it seems various factions are planning to take over Dreamland and it’s up their queen to save the people. Her journey takes her to new places including an underwater castle that contains game changing secrets about the kingdom.

Binge new episodes of Disenchantment beginning Wednesday, February 9, on Netflix.

Not Your Daddy’s Fresh Prince

Bel Air began as a mock trailer in the spring of 2019. Writer and director, Morgan Cooper, reimagined the fan favorite sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, as a dark drama. The shows original star, Will Smith, was so impressed by the fan film, that he wanted to expand the concept into a reboot.

This version is an hour drama set in the present providing a different take on Will’s journey from West Philadelphia to an affluent neighborhood in Los Angeles. He realizes this second life is far different than his previous one and must manage new challenges including the emotions, conflicts, and biases in this new world.

Stream the premiere of Bel Air starting Sunday, February 13, on Peacock.
