The Batman has been a huge success, with glowing reviews, and even writers like me thinking it could win best picture at the Oscars. A not-so-hidden secret has been revealed even more so today as The Batman director Matt Reeves has revealed a deleted scene featuring the Joker.
That’s right, Batman’s greatest nemesis got a whole scene in the film! Played by Barry Keoghan, the scene keeps him out of focus for the most part, although you can see horrible scars and green hair at one point.
The five-minute scene features a familiar location that is in the film where Batman seeks advice from the Joker in a cell. The cell looks very similar to the one Riddler was in at the end of the film which takes place inside Arkham Asylum.

Reeves actually revealed this scene existed in an interview with IGN on March 18th. “What’s interesting is that the reason that Joker’s in the movie is there was actually another scene that was earlier,” Reeves explained. “And because the movie is not an origin tale for Batman, but it’s his early days, it really is an origin tale for the Rogue’s Gallery’s characters. And for me, I think [it’s] this idea that the Joker is not yet the Joker, but they already have this relationship.”
The scene has Joker waxing poetic about their “anniversary” and how the first year the gift should be paper. It’s common for marriage gifts to be paper when they reach their one-year anniversary. This lines up with Batman being only 2 years into his tenure as the caped crusader and suggests he put Joker in Arkham in his first year.
The scene also features Batman asking Joker how Riddler thinks. After giving him some good info he plays with Batman and even smacks his gums enjoying every minute of it. The scene ends with Joker making the claim that Batman thinks Riddler’s victims deserved what they got.
