The Chattanooga Film Festival will be returning June 23rd with a virtual event that will be sure to impress genre film fans. Movies in recent years have included My Heart Can’t Beat Unless You Tell It To which has since found its way to Shudder and the sharply funny short For Your Consideration.
This year’s edition was intended to be a hybrid event. Since the effects of Covid-19 are still being felt (the Sundance Film Festival also changed plans earlier this year and went entirely virtual), festival organizers decided it was best to go the virtual route. While that is disappointing, CFF has a fun Discord channel that did a great job of replicating the festival feel during last year’s virtual event.
On the plus side, film fans have gotten used to virtual film fests. CFF was one of the first film fests to go completely virtual in 2020. It was not just the screenings that were virtual. There were panels, Q&As, and event a pajama party that were all done online. By the time last year’s event came around, other fests had done the same thing and CFF was able to make improvements on the previous year. It will be interesting to see what they have in store for this year.
