IDW announces ‘Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors—All Hail The King!’ from Erik Burnham and Dan Schoening

The five-issue followup to kid-friendly fan favorite ‘Godzilla: Monsters and Protectors’ debuts in October from IDW.

Today at San Diego Comic-Con, IDW Publishing announced that the King of Monsters is coming back to the publisher in the upcoming five-issue miniseries Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors–All Hail the King! from the returning creative team of writer Erik Burnham, illustrator Dan Schoening, and colorist Luis Antonio Delgado.

IDW describes the series thusly:

It’s been a year, and to Cedric’s dismay, there have been no more Godzilla sightings. Sure, that means no destruction, but it was also his vlog’s most popular series of videos. He needs new content! His views are dropping, and he’s running out of ideas. He’s being called out for lying by cyberbullies Dragon, who are trying to see if Cedric really has the Godzilla chops, and Karen Higa, who has her own agenda. There’s more going on beneath the surface, but will Cedric find out what before something deadlier than Godzilla rears its head?

SAN DIEGO, CA (July 22, 2021) – IDW, under license by Toho International, Inc., announces the triumphant return of the one-and-only King of the Monsters in the upcoming five-issue miniseries Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors–All Hail the King!, premiering in October.

The follow-up to the popular middle grade comic book series Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors (collected in December 2021 in the graphic novel Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors–Rise Up!) features the returning creative team of writer Erik Burnham, illustrator Dan Schoening, and colorist Luis Antonio Delgado.

“I’m so excited to get back into the Monsters & Protectors corner of the Godzilla universe,” says Burnham. “The first miniseries was a lot of fun to work on, playing with so many of the wacky, wild, and wonderful parts of Godzilla lore… so Dan Schoening, Luis Antonio Delgado and I aim to go even further in that direction this time! We just can’t wait to share another monster-sized adventure with the next generation of Godzilla fans.”

While All Hail the King! maintains the previous series’ focus on the looming threat of environmental catastrophe (with Godzilla, Cedric, and his friends serving as its only prospective foil) the new miniseries also represents a fresh opportunity for Burnham, Schoening, and Delgado to share their love of Godzilla and its legacy with a new generation, and to delve more deeply into its lore and mythos.

“Getting the opportunity to explore the world of Godzilla again is a great honor for me,” says Schoening. “I grew up watching the Shōwa era films, and having the chance to draw these larger-than-life monsters is nothing short of incredible. I hope these new stories help spread the love I have for TOHO’s creations with a whole new generation of Godzilla fans.”

“We are so excited that Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening, and Luis Antonio Delgado are coming back for the next installment of Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors All Hail the King!” says editor Jazmine Joyner. “We can’t wait for fans to see where the creators will take this series next.”

Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors—All Hail The King! #1 will be available with multiple cover variants for retailers and fans to enjoy, including Cover A by series illustrator Dan Schoening, Cover B by Andrea Bell, and a retailer incentive edition by John Yurcaba.
