‘Batman: One Dark Knight’ #3 is a gnarly, action-packed finale

Writer/artist Jock closes out ‘Batman: One Dark Knight’ on a tremendously high note with issue #3.

“But not tonight, not any night.”

This is one of many cool Batman quotes in artist/writer Jock’s Batman: One Dark Knight #3. As if it weren’t enough that the Caped Crusader is trying to duck and dodge every rival gang member in Gotham trying to kill him and E.M.P., issue #3 sees Batman having to navigate his way around the dark bowels of the sewer searching for E.M.P. But there are far worse things lurking in the sewers than just armed henchmen. In the final issue of this masterful three-part series, the last thing standing in the Dark Knight’s way of getting E.M.P. safely to Blackgate prison is a little obstacle named Killer Croc.

Jock saves the best for last in this gnarly, action-filled issue of Batman: One Dark Knight. What you’ll love most about this comic is seeing Batman kick ass and take names. Bloody, battered, broken ribs with limited resources, no communication with Alfred, and no assistance from the police or any other crime fighter, Batman still manages to hold his own. It’s a testament to why Batman is considered one of the greatest comic book heroes.

Jock’s good at creating messy yet realistic imagery that matches the emotional and physical tone of the book perfectly. Hands down, his work shines the brightest in this issue during the fight sequences between Croc and Batman in the sewers. In addition, his illustrations do an excellent job of establishing Batman’s determination to deliver E.M.P. to Blackgate prison – even if it kills him.

Batman: One Dark Knight #3 closes out the series on a tremendously high note and will leave most avid Batman fans waiting to see if Jock brings us any other incredible stories involving the Dark Knight. The pacing is great, the story is awesome, and the art Jock produces is always a spectacle.

Awesome dialogue.
Pacing and transitions were well done.
Gritty, unapologetically in-your-face line work that matches the essence of the story.
