Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 9, 2022

Blockbuster summer events and debuts and horror, oh my!

We’ve got that Fantastic Five Friday feeling here at AIPT! This week’s celebration of the best comics of the week is pretty varied, including two comics from DC, one from Marvel, and two from Image. Let’s see which floppies were the best of the week!

DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 9, 2022

DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 is a fantastic opening issue leads to an emotional rollercoaster you will want to ride again. The creative team brings us disaster and hope, all while setting up a significant threat in the Anti-Living New Gods. Like in the previous series, we get life and death, but the rules don’t always hold, so be prepared!

Love Everlasting #1

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 9, 2022

I thought about the second issue, and what was to come. In the world of content gluttony, Love Everlasting held my attention and wouldn’t let go. Superman: Son of Kal-El #14

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 9, 2022

Superman: Son of Kal-El #14 is an excellently plotted, fast-paced comic with many great character moments. So often these days comics stretch out their story, but Taylor and Tormey prove Superman: Son of Kal-El is addictive page-turning storytelling.

The Closet #3

Fantastic Five: The best comics of the week of August 9, 2022

Fans will be divided by the story’s final moments; however, The Closet #3 delivers when it comes to truly shocking the reader. To me, The Closet plays like a classic episode of The Twilight Zone or Tales from the Crypt. Ironically, most episodes served up a lesson or two as well. The creative team behind this short-lived series did an incredible job overall. I hope we see more stories from Tynion and Fullerton in the future.
