We hope to bring you thrills and chills this week with our Channel Surfing TV picks. Mike Flanagan looks to keep his streak of great supernatural horror series going with The Midnight Club. We’ll receive the first holiday special of the Marvel Studios era in Werewolf by Midnight. Then, raising a vampire child can be hard work in Let the Right One In.
A Haunting Death Pact
Flanagan is the man behind such television shows such as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manner, and Midnight Mass. For his latest project, he looks to adapt the Christopher Pike novel The Midnight Club.
The story revolves around a group of terminally ill young adults that live in the Rotterdam Home hospice. They don’t have much going for them because of the mysterious doctor that runs the place. Their only form of escape is meeting at midnight every night to share scary stories. During a get together, they form a pact that when one of them dies of their disease, that person will try to contact the rest from beyond the grave. Things get weird at Rotterdam Home after the passing of one of the members.
Stream the entire first season of The Midnight Club beginning Friday, October 7, on Netflix.
Let’s Go Monster Hunting
Jack Russell first appeared in the comic Marvel Spotlight #2 back in 1972. Now the character, and his other half Werewolf by Night, are joining the MCU in a tale of the strange and macabre. Who would have thought ol’ Jack would be the star of his own Halloween special?
Following the death of their leader, a secret society of monster hunters convene at the Bloodstone Temple. In order to honor their fallen comrade, they all take part in a deadly competition where the winner is awarded a powerful relic. Gael Garcia Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, and more star in this frightening nod to horror films from the 1930s and 1940s. To keep with the spirit, the special is shown in black and white.

A Lonely Existence
Let the Right One In began as a Swedish novel that eventually was adapted into films. The first was released in Sweden while the other was an American remake with the title Let Me In. Hollywood isn’t done with the property since it is also receiving a TV series.
The latest is inspired by the source material and centers on Mark and his daughter Eleanor. They seem like a normal family but Eleanor was turned into a vampire 10 years earlier and she keeps her youthful appearance. She has a sheltered life and only goes out at night while her father provides the blood for her meals. The pair travel to New York City hoping to find a cure to Eleanor’s condition.
The linear series premiere of Let the Right One In will be Sunday, October 9, on Showtime.
